Jay Hieron has had a tough time trying to get that elusive Strikeforce title shot after openly admitting that his motivation for signing with the promotion was the chance to fight for the belt.

Following his bout with Joe Riggs at Strikeforce: Miami - another encounter that was expected to put him in the number-one contender spot - he was not guaranteed the fight with Nick Diaz after Hayato Sakurai's name was thrown into the mix.

Hieron talks about the prospects below:

Some choice quotes from Hieron:

"Diaz didn't wanna fight me, that's the only reason I can think. The fight was presented three times and I signed for it. It gives me the impression that he didn't wanna fight me."

"We'll see what happens, that's why I got my agent...."

"I came here for a title shot first off. It didn't happen yet, everybody knows that but we'll see man. It's not all Strikeforce's fault that  I didn't fight for the title."

"My time will come. All work pays off and I live by that."

When an experienced fighter of Hieron's calibre admits that he is losing money fighting on undercards, especially when promised a shot at the gold, you've got to wonder how long he will stick around if he doesn't manage to clear the situation up soon. Definitely deserving, it would be seen as a huge snub if Sakurai leapfrogged him for the title shot following back-to-back losses in Japan.
