The news that teammates Tyson Griffin and Evan Dunham are looking set to square off in the Octagon comes against the grain as a slew of other propostions that include fighters from the same camp have been knocked back, much to the disdain of UFC president Dana White.
MMAWeekly revealed that the fighters have agreed to the contest which is very relevant in the 155lbs picture and the Xtreme Couture men will momentarily put their friendships on hold and go at it in the cage.
AKA's infamous welterweight squad have stated they would not fight one another, despite a trio of them being near the top of the division at 170lbs; Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck and Mike Swick. White has also panged for an Anderson Silva vs. Lyoto Machida fight, but the Blackhouse fighters have stated they wouldn't want that to go ahead.
Griffin (14-2) and Dunham (10-0) are willing to do what they do every day in the gym and throw down for the sake of their careers.
Griffin TKOed Hermes Franca in his last outing at UFC 103 whilst Dunham took Efrain Escudero's zero at UFC Fight Night 20. Both are pushing towards the top of the division and if they have to battle a friend to do it, they're willing to.
In combat sports, people can mistake business moves for personal ones but there will be no bad blood here as both men are just trying to progress themselves and take the right fights for their future.
It is expected that Dunham will hold his camp elsewhere whilst Griffin will remain at Xtreme Couture.
UFC 115 is set for Vancouver on June 12th, 2010.
